Game Vision & Concept

My Nightmares is a concept for a story-driven 3D horror game. The player takes the role of a boy who lives with his family in a block of flats and shares a small bedroom with his two sisters. During the day, it is a familiar home filled with ordinary conversations and daily routines. Once he falls asleep, everything can change.

A different dream every night

Not every dream is a nightmare. Some are joyful, playful and comforting. Others feel unsettling or frightening from the start. Sometimes both feelings overlap: something beautiful and safe gradually turns into a disturbing experience.

Each dream presents its own situation, atmosphere and challenges for the player to get through. The game draws on a child’s imagination and the way familiar places, people and everyday objects can become something entirely different in a dream.

What stays with you in the morning

Waking up does not end a dream’s influence. Experiences from the night change the boy’s feelings, his perception of home and his behaviour towards the people around him. What he goes through in his sleep carries over into everyday life and his relationships with his sisters and the rest of his family.

The connection between these two worlds is central to the concept. The player goes through individual dreams while also seeing how their emotions stay with the boy and affect his waking life.

Between day and night

The game alternates between daily life in the flat and dream sequences. Exploring the home, talking to family and following ordinary evening and morning routines provide the setting for what happens during sleep. The small bedroom is where the player enters the world of dreams and returns afterwards, carrying something from the night into the next day.
